New Shelves, New Bathroom

Jan 28, 2012 by

Hey, I put up our new String® System Pocket shelves! Leah bought them for me for Christmas (probably because she wanted them too). What do you know, they look great. The installation was super easy but it didn’t come with any mounting hardware so I had to use my own. NO PROBLEM.

PROTIP: color the screws black with a Sharpie paint pen.

The bathroom is really starting to come together. The first thing I accomplished, when we moved in, was tearing down the disgusting old bathroom mirror cabinet and putting up a new IKEA LILLÅNGEN (the obvious cheap non-offensive choice). The white cabinet looks great alongside the black shelves with the black and white tiles. The Cochran and Perry nudes add some nice bright color.

Planning 2012

Jan 23, 2012 by

I am an obsessive planner, list maker, crosser-outer, and writer-downer of everything I do and have to do. I’ve always kept a Moleskine planner, but when I saw this bright, color blocked 2012 Daily Planner by Julia Kostreva, I had to switch over. At first its size was a bit daunting, as I’m used to pocket-sized, but I soon grew to love the ample spaces for each day, the big monthly calendars, and the extra blank pages for notes. The year has still just begun, and you can pick up your own planner by Julia (in any of 5 cover designs!) here.

Brooklyn

Jan 18, 2012 by

It’s been about 2 months since I moved here so I decided to take my camera out on a walk and snap some photos around my new neighborhood. I took a 6 mile walk from my house in Bushwick, up to Greenpoint, down the East River waterfront and across the Williamsburg Bridge. This is my first roll I’ve taken in New York, click here to see them all. When I moved here, I shot around thirty rolls of film on my cross-country road trip. I’m slowly sifting through them and posting new photos weekly on my personal blog. Eventually I’ll have all of them on Flickr.

Ferret Fun

Jan 15, 2012 by

Last week we had a visitor. Our pal, Chelsey, had some traveling to do so she left us to pet sit her ferret, Bijou, for a whole week. He is the sweetest and cutest animal I’ve ever met. I had never seen a ferret before but I was really surprised by how mellow and friendly he was, I miss him already.

If you don’t follow us on instagram, here are some of Bijou’s best moments:

Collar & Scarf

Jan 9, 2012 by

I’ve been waiting for a long time to show off my hammered brass collar by Young Frankk.  Christine Young is the girl behind Young Frankk, and even though we’ve never met IRL we have this special bond because we both went through the Parsons Illustration Program.  Young Frankk jewelry has been all over the best blogs and pretty internet girls recently, and I’m always so excited to see another young person like myself making it happen.

I wore my collar today with my favorite chiffon scarf and my fungi printed dress (which is pretty much the way it’s supposed to be worn, as you can see here). I’ve been looking for more things to do with the scarves now that I have so many, and this head scarf tutorial I found is perfect.

You can see more of Christine & her work on her Etsy, Pintrest, and Tumblr.

Tacos

Jan 6, 2012 by

This is pretty much my favorite lunch and it’s simple. We are lucky to have a great tortillaria around the corner where we pick up fresh corn tortillas. Just add pinto beans, tomato, onion, cilantro, avocado, queso fresco, Tapatio & lime. Boom. It’s not the perfect taco but it reminds me of San Diego a little bit.

Morning Light

Jan 3, 2012 by

The kitchen has become the center of life around here. The office is still a wreck and our living room chairs don’t have cushions, so after breakfast we just set up computer camp at the table. The kitchen gets beautiful light every morning and we’ve filled it with plants, fresh flowers, and our favorite candles. A painting by my mom (titled “Bootsie at the Egyptian”, a cat that lived at the Egyptian apartments with her in San Diego, well before I was born) hangs on one wall.

Other stuff, mostly plant-related: A few Boskke hanging planters hang next to the best plant-printed mirror we found at the thrift store. And tons of little plants in pots and jars. I love vintage milk-glass jars as mini planters (there are a ton for sale on Etsy). My mom made the ceramic goldfish planter. We also recently replaced our terrible temporary Ikea chairs with some great old Thonet-style bentwood chairs.
